HUH, WHATS OS-TAN?

OS-tans are moe anthropomorphic personifications of popular operating systems, originating on the Japanese imageboard Futaba Channel. The designs of the OS-tans, which were created by various amateur Japanese artists, are typically female; for example, the personifications of Microsoft Windows operating systems are often depicted as sisters of varying ages. The -tan element in the term is a hypocoristic suffix in Japanese that implies extremely youthful endearment. Though initially appearing only in fan works, the OS-tans proved popular enough that Microsoft branches in Asian countries such as Singapore, Hong Kong, Macau, Taiwan and Japan used the OS-tan personification concept as the basis for advertising campaigns for Microsoft Windows, Internet Explorer and Microsoft Silverlight, respectively. If you would like to learn more about the OS-TAN characters- I created a carrd back in 2020 that details the Windows-tans. Please check out troublewindowsostan.carrd.co

WHO IS 2K-TAN?

2K-tan: The personification for Windows 2000 was one of the first characters created alongside Me-Tan. A few variants exist, but the most common is 2k-tan, the personification for Windows 2000 Professional. She is typically drawn as an intelligent, professional, reserved looking woman with short blue hair, glasses, and hairclips that resemble cat ears flanking a small white bonnet or ruffle, similar to maid's hairclip that shows the windows logo. The cat ear-shaped hairclips are a pun: "2K" in Japanese is "Ni-Ke", the meowing sound in Japanese is "nya", so she is also known as "Nya-ke". Windows 2000 is the most stable, dependable, and balanced system. She often acts like the older sister or dependable woman among the Windows-tans and is one of the domain controllers for this reason. In addition, because of the greater stability of Win2K compared with WinME (which was released around the same time), 2K-tan is often described as a guardian of ME-tan.

WHY DO YOU LIKE HER SO MUCH?

It's quite simple, she's cute! Ever since I could recall, I'd think about what it would be like if inanimate objects could feel-- and I felt in a way that they did! When I learnt about Gijinka 萌え擬人化, moe gijinka in the 2000's I was immeditely hooked. It began with Pokemon gijinka and then it quickly spiraled into an obsession with the gijinka-fication of everything. Being a netizen since I was a child means I was exposed to a lot and OS-TAN was one of them. I didn't understand OS nor computers but I sure did love everything about cute anime girls... It wasn't until 4 years ago that I really started obsessing over Windows 2000 specifically. She's the most reliable of the OS's you see and that rings true to her real-life counterpart WIN2000. It's fun, It's harmless... She's my wife ^_^...
